Babossa Damascus knife, desert ironwood handle
The Babossa Damascus knife is made of forged genuine Damascus steel up to the cutting edge.
Most supposed Damascus knives are made of so-called Damascus laminate. This involves "laminating" a "core" steel as the blade steel with soft Damascus layers. In other words, coated. The Damascus layers on these knives only have an optical function! No cutting function! Our Damascus knife, on the other hand, is a true, genuine Damascus knife, which is made from 110 folded layers of Damascus steel right up to the tip of the blade. The synergy of a hard steel with a high carbon content in combination with a more flexible steel with a lower carbon content results in an extremely hard and yet very flexible blade. In addition, this knife has a stunning visual grain of the steels! The fine "wavy star" pattern on the blade is an absolute hit. Pulling this knife out of its elegant walnut sheath, holding it in your hand and working with it is pure joy!
The 110 layers of knife steel consist of two types of steel with 0.8% and 1% carbon content. The combination of the two steels results in an optimum synergy of their properties. The steel with the higher carbon content makes the knife brutally sharp and the hardness ensures that this sharpness is retained for a long time. The disadvantages of carbon (susceptibility to corrosion and breakage) are compensated for by the steel with 0.8% carbon. This steel makes the knife corrosion-resistant. It also makes the blade flexible and resistant to falls.
Since the characteristic pattern of the Damascus forging technique leaves the corrosion-prone steel visible, the knife is additionally etched so that a patina additionally protects the steel. This process makes the pattern not only visible but also perceptible.
IMPORTANT:
This knife differs significantly from visually similar offers on the Internet. Most knives are so-called Damascus laminate. A "core" steel is "laminated" as blade steel with soft Damascus layers. In other words, coated. The Damascus layers on these knives only have an optical function! No cutting function! These knives also usually have significantly fewer layers of Damascus. When buying a precise cutting tool like this, you should therefore always look very carefully and order from a trustworthy retailer. Then you will enjoy your knife for a long time!
