Salts have a long tradition in Hawaii, just like in many other cultures. For the Hawaiians, salt is an essential component for achieving inner balance. It supports the natural flow of life and symbolizes a deep connection with nature. Hawaiian black salt is dedicated to the hot-blooded fire goddess Pele, the daughter of Mother Earth and the father of heaven. It symbolizes the creation of the islands from the volcanic fire of the earth.
It is created on the island of Molokai by evaporating filtered Pacific water using solar energy. The salt crystals obtained in this way are mixed with a mineral extract. Black Hawaiian salt is produced by adding high-purity activated charcoal.
The different Hawaiian salts with their distinctive colors reflect the colors of the land, black for the volcanic origins, red for the omnipresent sacred Alaea earth and for freedom, green for the lush vegetation and white for the water that surrounds the islands and the snow-capped mountain peaks.
