The ancient Egyptians were already aware of the versatility of this spice 3500 years ago and used coriander seeds to refine their dishes. The countries around the Mediterranean are considered to be the area of origin of coriander, but the spice has also been known in China for more than 1500 years and in North America for 400 years. Today, coriander is also cultivated in many countries in North and South America, as well as in Africa and Asia.
Use
Coriander seeds are an indispensable ingredient in curry spice blends and harmonize excellently with turmeric, cardamom, cloves or allspice. The whole or ground seeds are particularly versatile in their use. It adds a spicy flavor to soups, pulses, red cabbage or sauerkraut. Coriander is also an interesting spice for desserts.
